Chris Pyne on Campus

In a move that was kept surprisingly well-hidden considering the amount of publicity the Minster for Education has had in recent days, Chris Pyne today made an appearance dangerously close to Clayton campus.

Pyne was at Monash to help launch Monash’s Diamond Deposition Suite at the Centre for Nanofabrication.

Monash students were alerted to Pyne’s presence this morning and many of them made their way down to the Centre for Nanofabrication at 151 Wellington Rd just after 10:30am this morning, hoping to have a chance to air their grievances with the Minister after his repeated refusal to rule out the deregulation of fees for higher education.

Christopher Pyne was apparently unwilling to meet with the assembled students, which included National Union of Students Education Officer Sarah Garnham and Monash Student Association President Ben Knight, to discuss their concerns.

Students proceeded to picket the front entrance and side entrance of the building before Pyne departed in a white car, narrowly missing hitting several students.

Christopher Pyne will be returning to Monash Clayton to speak about fee deregulation at 5pm tonight. Lot’s Wife will endeavour to keep you updated on all news as it comes to hand.

Update 12:20pm: Lot’s Wife has been informed that Pyne will in fact not be returning to Monash today.
