MICF Reviews – Cal Wilson is Guilty

The comedian decided to call her show Cal Wilson is Guilty, but there is just one thing she’s guilty of – being hilarious!
No? No one?

Terrible jokes aside, Cal Wilson is actually quite funny and has much better material than that one.
At the start of the show volunteers come round with pens and papers and ask everyone to write down one thing they feel guilty for. It’s a tough task, mainly because it requires you to think over which imparts more shame: the time you told your grandma you didn’t want the Barbie make-up kit she bought you, or when you hid your brother’s baby tooth in order to prove to him the tooth fairy didn’t exist. (It’s the make-up kit by the way.)

Wilson impresses the crowd with the sheer extent of how much she feels guilty for, revealing a lot about herself in the process.

From her complicated relationship with her mother and also with her own son, she doesn’t leave an aspect to her life unexplored. However, not all of the talking is done by Wilson. She relies on audience participation as well, keeping the show fresh and interesting. She even asks one Catholic audience member to help her in doing her first confession, all the while wearing a cardboard box over her head that’s meant to represent a confessional booth.

If you choose to attend one of Wilson’s shows, you will come out with your cheeks sore from laughter, but more importantly, a clean conscience, free from the guilt that’s been weighing you done all these years.

You can see Cal Wilson in the Powder Room at Melbourne Town Hall until the 21st of April.

  1. I really want to see this cardboard box that acts as a confessional booth! Seems perfectly portable!
