MICF Reviews- Today Tonight, Tomorrow the World

It takes a certain type of person to appear on Today Tonight, as
Wikipedia calls it a “current affairs” program (note the sarcastic
quotation marks there) but more commonly known as the best worst show in Australian television.

Alongside dole bludgers, wonder bras and that guy who punched the
Today Tonight crew, Nicholas J Johnson is one of these select few,
making his debut as ‘Australia’s honest conman’ in 2006 (“Don’t blame 2013 Nick  for mistakes 2006 Nick made ok?!”). He appeared again not once, but six more times as a pickpocket and a swindler, but all-round nice guy who will tell you he’s scammed you in the end (it is all a learning experience after all).

If you saw his first segment – the highest rated segment that, year he’ll have you know – you probably “accidentally saw the show because you were at Grandma’s house and Grandma loves Today Tonight”. Regardless, Nick’s routine will have you in stitches.

Along the way, expect the obligatory audience participation, a reverent dislike for critics (we’re not all jerks you know!) a multimedia spectacular (photo slideshows and grainy youtube videos to boot) and a somewhat seedy affection for Dakota Fanning.

Ultimately, Nick wants to know who is really being conned; the guy in the street who ends up with a rock rather than a CD player through slight-of-hand, or the conman himself for selling his soul to the Today Tonight devil?

You’ll have to head on down to Comedy On Collins to find out. Tickets are only $17 and a bucket full o’ laughs is guaranteed.

Today Tonight, Tomorrow the World is running Tuesday-Sunday until April 21st at Comedy on Collins at 9.30pm
