Clubs and Societies Statement on Appeals to C&S Council

The Misconduct Appeal Hearing, to be heard by the full C&S Council, was originally scheduled for Thursday 18th September. Due to concerns that the Club had not been given adequate notice for the hearing, the C&S Executive resolved to defer the hearing to a later date. The new date of the C&S EGM to consider the Misconduct Appeal is Friday 26th September, from 1pm in H5, Building 11. A reminder that all C&S Council members (the President of each club or their proxy) are required to attend.

It is important to note that, as the Socialist Alternative Club has appealed the decision, the penalty of deregistration has been stayed. As such, they remain an affiliated Club – and may continue to run events and other activities on campus – unless otherwise determined by the C&S Council.

C&S has received some concerning reports from members of Socialist Alternative that they have been victimised, harassed and bullied by students in the course of conducting their activities as a Club since the finding of misconduct was made by the C&S Executive. Such behaviour would be completely unacceptable and the C&S Executive wholeheartedly condemns such actions. The C&S Executive will be offering any assistance requested by members of Socialist Alternative in facilitating the lodgement of complaints against those concerned with the University, and any individuals found to have been engaging in such actions as representatives of a Club affiliated with C&S will face consequences in accordance with the C&S Constitution and Regulations.

  1. Can’t really bring myself to care about what people are doing to the SA members at this point. They’ve been harassing and bullying people for longer than I’ve been at this Uni and now that they’re getting it done back to them they run off crying to C&S because it’s suddenly a problem? That just reeks of the pot calling the kettle black.

  2. Pretty sure C&S have received many, many, MANY more concerning reports from members of the general Monash Uni community that they have been victimised, harassed and bullied by members in the course of simply walking to a library. I would hope such behaviour is completely unacceptable to the C&S Executive, and that is it wholeheartedly condemning of such actions. I hope the C&S Executive will be offering any assistance requested by individuals in facilitating the lodgement of complaints against those Socialist Alternative members concerned with the University, and any individuals found to have been engaging in such actions as representatives of Socialist Alternative – who are currently affiliated with C&S – will face consequences in accordance with the C&S Constitution and Regulations.
